Belt Exam

1. Pre-registration required.

2. Belt exams are INVITATION ONLY events.

3. Online registration closes 1 week prior to the belt exam.

4. Verbal approvals by instructors during class time are no longer accepted.

5. ALL students must receive *written* approval directly from the Kaizen office team before starting the testing process. Approval to test will be sent to students via email.

Testing for white w/black stripe, orange, or yellow belt

1. Instructor pre-tests during class time when they feel the student is ready to move up in rank.

2. If the student is ready, the instructor will notify the Kaizen office team. Then, the Kaizen office team will email parents written approval for their child to test. Please note, this test will be LIVE and in-person on the testing date in a group setting. If the student does *not* pass the in-class pre-test, they must wait until the instructor feels they are ready.

3. Once you have received written approval to test, then the student must register for the test by clicking the link below.

4. Show up for your belt exam on the scheduled date.

Testing for green belt or higher

1. Instructor pre-tests during class time when they feel the student is ready to move up in rank.

2. If the student is ready, the instructor sends written notification to the KK office team. Then, the KK office team will email the student directly with approval to test.

3. Once approved, students must register for the test by clicking the link below (include video links at the time of registration). Sending your video as an attachment via email will not be accepted

4. Video feedback and testing results will only be sent back to the student after they have registered online using the link below.

*Please note, the video test for green belts and higher is now the actual test and is pass / fail.
*After passing the video test, there is an in-person requirement for students testing for green belt and higher

In Summary, instructors can give you permission to start the pre-testing process. However, Coach V is the only instructor grading students and awarding belt rank.

The requirements listed below are minimums.

Please keep in mind that the instructor of the class may require more than what is posted.

*Students who train at Summer Camp only can test up to green belt rank.  

*In order to test for purple belt and higher, student MUST attend weekend and / or evening classes year-round.

Yellow belts - must have a black Kaizen Karate uniform prior to testing for this belt

Green belts - must have a full set of sparring gear 3-4 months prior to testing for this belt

The belt exam will be held IN-PERSON for all students testing for white with black stripe - red belt ranks. Students will take part in a group test / workshop hosted by Coach V. All material for the student’s belt level will be covered in detail during this special event.
